Believe it or not, this comic is an account of a true story.
I'd been interested in drawing a daily-style comic since about my mid-teens, but this was my first attempt at one drawn from my personal life after a bunch of failed attempts at inventing characters for gamer or other kinds of comics. The barely-perceptible irony of the pie situation was delicious to me, delicious like some kind of cake or strudel, and in the middle of the night I started sketching out the scenario. The "smaller than life" perspective to the humor is kind of the lifeblood of the comic, and whenever I stray from it, it feels entirely lost.
A fun sidenote for me was to notice other comics I enjoyed that also started or quickly ran into the topic of pie, notably Dave Bort's Bug Jar Comics and Death to the Extremist. I took it as a good omen.
Both comics ended some years ago, so I'm not so sure about that omen anymore.
